Spring Break

Today is the first day in what feels like forever that it's actually nice outside.  I kind of wanted recess to last all day...maybe we did have a little extra....sshhh.  It's also got me ready for our spring break, which can't get here soon enough.  It seems like March and April and the most difficult months of the school year.  We've worked so hard for such a long time, and we're starting to wear down.  I've also noticed an increase in my students fussing with each other and other behavior issues.  We're also starting to feel the pressure of our upcoming state test that is now just weeks away.

A couple of weeks ago, I had one of those aha moments when I thought of a really fun way to makes those weeks leading up to spring break a little more bearable.  I've compiled everything into a new product The Countdown to Spring Break Literacy Activities.  I plan to use this with my students the week before spring break, but the activities can be completed at any time.

There are nine literacy activities, with 3 reading, 3 writing, and 3 language activities.  Each of the activities can be completed as a stand alone activity that would be great for whole group or center lessons.  I plan to use a student choice board so that my students will complete three of the nine activities (one from each row).

All of the reading activities are flexible and can be used with chapter books, picture books, fiction books, and nonfiction books.

All of the activities have been aligned to the Common Core Standards.  There is a writing activity for informational writing, opinion writing, and narrative writing.

The language activities consist of dictionary skills, figurative language, and parts of speech.

I think I may be most excited about the fact that there is little to no prep work involved.  I'll be able to just print and copy and I'm ready!
