Economics & Valentines

We've just started our economics unit, and I have to say that it's probably my favorite social studies unit to teach.  It actually used to be my least favorite, but I've found that with a little creativity it can be tons of fun.  I started my class out with a little questionnaire just to get them thinking about economics.  I used the questions filling out their KWL charts on the worksheet, and they loved seeing their questions.  You can click {here} or on the picture for a copy.

We've done a few other initial activities, which have let me know that we definitely have a lot to learn.  These are a couple of my favorite responses.

I'm sure she was thinking of "nonprofit", so I can see her train of thought.

I just loved this one!

I also have a couple pictures left over from Valentine's Day that I thought were really cute.  I thought that the robots were just too cute to drink and the marshmallows were too pretty to eat.

We have some type of  federal grant so that every student gets a snack each day.  On Valentine's Day our snack was bananas, and this was what one of my students found.  I thought that was just too cool!

  2. Thanks so much for the freebie! I love teaching econ, too. The kids LOVE it (anything with money is great!) but there are so many valuable things to teach.
