What’s Included?

  • A picture of a completed interactive notebook entry for each country/culture.
  • A black and white version of each activity.
  • I’ve include two options for some countries to keep the interactive notebooks flexible for all classroom needs. All countries come with one generic template where students can record what they learned, facts, important info, etc.
  • There is a second version for most countries that requires students to apply reading skills and strategies from the Common Core Language Arts Standards for Informational Text. For instance, students may have to determine the text structure of the passage they were reading about that holiday or need to identify the point of view of the passage.

]]> These holidays around the world close reading passages and comprehension questions help students dig deeper into informational reading.

In this holidays around the world resource, there are ten nonfiction reading passages based on ten cultures/nations’ holiday celebrations. Since we all have students reading on many different reading levels, each passage is written on three different reading levels.

There are also three sets of questions for each set of holidays around the world passages. The first set of questions are text dependent questions that require students to cite evidence in the text, and the second set of questions require students to analyze the text structure and word choice of the passage. The third set of questions have students respond to a question that promotes high order thinking.
