You will love this Daily Reading Practice resource, which offers valuable reading comprehension practice. In this first unit there are six weeks worth of reading practice, which includes a brief reading passage and comprehension questions for each day of the week. This can be used for morning work, homework, exit tickets, reading centers, and more! Each day students will read a brief passage answer two multiple choice questions and two short answer questions.

I’ve organized this set of practice questions by skill, and each week focuses on a different school. The skills follow the same layout and pacing as my 3rd-5th grade reading units. However, regardless of which curriculum you teach, you can still use these review questions. I like to use these as a formative assessment to guide my reading instruction. In each assessment, at least two of the comprehension questions focus on the featured skill of the week.

No materials? No worries! This is available as a physical version and a digital version. This means you don’t need any locks or boxes to complete this Christmas activity! In this Christmas version, students were accidentally placed on the naughty list and must find their way to the nice list.

Escape rooms and breakout classrooms have found their way into today’s elementary classroom! They are such a great way to increase student engagement and to promote collaborative learning. This holiday escape activity is a perfect way to celebrate with FUN end of the year activities.

Here’s what’s included:

Teacher Directions: including a link to a detailed blog post with example set-up pictures.

Student Directions: easy to understand and student friendly.

Clue 1: To prove that you belong on the nice list, you’ll need to sing a few Christmas carols. Decipher the picture clues to determine which 12 carols to sing. Write the title of the song that each card represents on your recording sheet.

Clue 2: Santa accidentally jumbled up his Christmas list. Help him by finding the hidden words on the list. The letters that are NOT used will give you the next clue

Clue 3: Help Santa find what number goes at the top of his tree. You should add side-by-side numbers and write the sum of those numbers on the hexagon above that number. The number at the top is your code!

Clue 4: To help Santa organize his supplies, you need to match the Christmas items on the Christmas puzzle. To complete the 3-by-3 puzzle, you should reconstruct the squares so that all of the images match on every interior side. Remember, you are making a square. Once you complete the puzzle, use the top three images and the decoder wheel to crack the code!

These puzzles are not specific to any standard or grade level. Instead, this version is centered around critical thinking skills.

This can be used with Breakout Edu boxes or with your own boxes and locks. If you do not have boxes and locks, you may use the digital version, where students submit their answers on Google Forms.

Here’s what’s included:

Teacher Directions

Student Directions

Clue 1: Find the dimensions of two rectangles. These dimensions (place from least to greatest) provide the clue to the 4-digit lock.

Clue 2: In this clue, you must find the measure of 5 angles. For four of the angles, you will need to use a protractor to find the measure of the angle. Add the measure of each of the angles together, and the sum will be the code for the 3-digit lock. This will lead you further away from the reef.

Clue 3: Use the line plot to answer each of the five questions. Then, use the decoder wheel to determine the colors for the 5-color lock. Place the colors in the same order as the questions. If you have a question with two answers, you’ll use one of the answers. Choose the one on the decoder wheel. When you complete this, you’ve almost escaped!

Clue 4: Solve the measurement table. Crack the code to find your last mystery to solve.

This can be used with Breakout Edu boxes or with your own boxes and locks. If you do not have boxes and locks, you may use the digital version, where students submit their answers on Google Forms.

They are such a great way to increase student engagement and to promote collaborative learning. This geometry escape activity is a perfect way to culminate your fourth grade geometry unit.

Here’s what’s included:

Teacher Directions

Student Directions

Clue 1: Complete each of the five geometry task cards. The numbers to the correct answers are the colors for the five color lock. You will need to use the color decoder to find the colors. Place the colors in the order as the number on the cards. This will take you one step closer to the key to escape.

Clue 2: To complete the 3-by-3 puzzle, you should reconstruct the squares so that all of the images match on every interior side. Remember, you are making a square. Once you complete the puzzle, use the four corner images and the decoder wheel to crack the code! This will lead you to the room where the key is held.

Clue 3: Match the description of each shape with the corresponding picture example on the right column. Draw a straight line from the left dot to the right dot. The letters that you do not cross out with your lines are the code for your 5-letter lock. Place the letters in alphabetical order. This will lead you to the safe where the key is kept.

Clue 4: Determine how many sets of parallel lines, perpendicular lines, right angles, acute angles, and obtuse angles are in each shape. When you finish, add the numbers together to discover the next combination. However, since this is a 3-digit lock don’t use the odd number.

This can be used with Breakout Edu boxes or with your own boxes and locks. If you do not have boxes and locks, you may use the digital version, where students submit their answers on Google Forms.

Here’s what’s included:

Teacher Directions

Student Directions

Clue 1: Match each rocket with the correct astronaut. After you match the rockets with the astronauts, line the cards up from least to greatest. You should first lay down the astronaut card and then the rocket that matches the astronaut card. If you line the cards up correctly, you will be able to read the clue.

Clue 2: Determine which decimal is the largest decimal through a bracket system. This funnel will get you even closer to the fuel your rockets need. Compare each set of decimals on the bracket and record the largest decimal. Continue until there is ONE winner. The digits of that decimal will unlock the 4-digit lock.

Clue 3: Use symbols to compare each set of decimals. Record how many of each symbol you used on the recording sheet. This will give you the code of the 3-digit lock.

Clue 4: Solve each of the fraction problems. Use the key at the bottom of the page to determine the five colors on the five color lock. This clue will give you the key to the fuel tank, so you can make it home!

This can be used with Breakout Edu boxes or with your own boxes and locks. If you do not have boxes and locks, you may use the digital version, where students submit their answers on Google Forms.

No materials? No worries! This is available as a physical version and a digital version. This means you don’t need any locks or boxes to complete this back to school activity! In this version, students must escape the black to school blues in order to have the best school year ever.

This project contains a collection of problem solving activities that can be used across multiple grade levels. Each of the four activities has a back-to-school focus (team building, procedures, cooperation, etc.) that will engage and excite all students. This is a modified escape room activity, since it’s the beginning of the year and students are still learning classroom routines and procedures. There are several editable options to allow the activities to follow your personal classroom rules and procedures.

Here’s what’s included:

Teacher Directions: Including a link to a detailed blog post with example set-up pictures.

Student Directions: Easy to understand and student friendly.

Clue 1: Students must all work together to complete the puzzle together. The pictures in the puzzle do not provide help, so this puzzle will be a bit challenging for students.

Clue 2: Everyone wants to feel respected, so it’s important to use good social skills throughout the year. For this clue there are 12 different social situations where
students should work with their group to determine what they should do in that situation. When students finish writing their responses, they will bring the recording sheet to the teacher to get a maze that will allow them to find the 3-digit code.

Clue 3: Students will find members of their group who have completed the activities on the BINGO board and write their name on the line below the activity. Each group
member must be on the board at least once. When students have a BINGO when they have 5 in a row, column, or diagonally. When they have a BINGO, bring you the
recording sheet to get the Clue 3 code.

Clue 4: In this activity, students review some of their classroom rules and procedures. Students will circle the correct option for each of the procedures. The letters circled are the letters needed for the 5-letter lock. This activity is 100% editable.

This can be used with Breakout Edu boxes or with your own boxes and locks. If you do not have boxes and locks, you may use the digital version, where students submit their answers on Google Forms.

Division Content

Clue 1: Students solve each of the division problems. After students divide, they find the quotient on the bottom of the recording sheet. Students will place the letter on the problem on top of the corresponding quotient.

Clue 2: The numbers on the table are being used as dividends in division problems. Students should color in all numbers that will be certain to have a remainder-no matter what the divisor for the problem is. Students should not try to solve every possible division problem. Instead, have students think about divisibility rules and use the process of elimination.

Clue 3: Students should solve each of the division problems where the student must interpret what to do with the remainder of the word problem. There are three answer choices at the bottom of each card. Students will select the best choice and write down the corresponding letter. Students then unscramble the letters to find your next clue.

Clue 4: Students should solve each of the problems on the Clue 4 cards. These problems all consistent of area models or box models of division problems with missing numbers. After students determine the five answers, they place the cards in order from the smallest answer to the greatest answer. This is the order of the letters for the 5-letter lock.

This can be used with Breakout Edu boxes or with your own boxes and locks. If you do not have boxes and locks, you may use the digital version, where students submit their answers on Google Forms.
